Nikkei 225 Historical Components & Changes

The table below lists the historical components of the Nikkei 225 stock index. If a company was part of the index during the last day of a certain year, it has been marked with “X”. Nikkei 225, also known as the Nikkei Stock Average, is considered as the benchmark index for the Japanese equity market.

Latest changes to the Nikkei 225 components

Between January and September 2020, two index components were replated. In October, SoftBank Corp replaced Nippon Kayaku Co Ltd. In July, Japan Exchange Group replaced Sony Financial Holdings Inc.

In the year 2019, there were four changes to the index constituents. In October, M3 Inc replaced Tokyo Dome Corp. In August, Bandai Namco Holdings Inc. (7832) replaced Chiyoda Corporation (6366). In March, Idemitsu Kosan Ltd (5019) and Omron Corp (6645) were added to the index and Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (5002) and Pioneer Corporation (6773) were removed.

During 2018, there were only two changes with the consituents. In December, DIC Corp (4631) replaced Nisshin Steel Co., Ltd. (5413). In October, CyberAgent Inc (4751) was added and Furukawa Co., Ltd. (5715) was deleted.
